Coach Buel has led the Cougars to thirteen consecutive post-season appearances, with a record of 406-192 and finishing no lower than seventh place at the NWAC Championship tournament. Her 2007 and 2014 teams finished runner-up while the 2012 team went 38-11 and won the school its ninth NWAC Softball Championship.

Buel was named the 2010 Southern Region Coach of the Year, 2012 NWAC Coach of the Year and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NWAC Coach of the Year in 2010.

She starred for the Cougars during the 1999-2000 seasons in centerfield, helping her teams to a combined 63-16 record, a Southern Region Championship and a third- and fourth-place finish during the 1999 and 2000 NWAACC tournaments.

She was twice honored as a First Team Southern Region All-Star and earned NFCA NWAC All-American in 2000. Prior to college, she was a standout at Sprague High School in Salem where she was the Valley League Player of the Year in 1998. Her outstanding play at CCC led her to signing at Western Oregon University for the 2001-02 seasons.

At WOU, she earned all-league honors and also broke the school's single season record for stolen bases. After graduating WOU with her communications degree, Buel was the head coach at Central High School in Independence. She coached there from 2003 to 2005 and led the program to a top 10 ranking her final season. The following season she turned her skills to her alma mater at WOU, where she was appointed as outfield coach and also specialized in fine-tuning the hitting skills of the team's left-handed slappers.

She earned a master's degree in health education from WOU and currently teaches health and PE classes at CCC. Buel and her husband, Kacy, have a three daughters, Brooklyn (10), Tennley (7), Payson (4) and two sons, Beckett (9) and Baker (2).
